Cutting Edge Essentials: The 3 Scissors Your Sewing Kit Can't Do Without

Hi there sewing friend !

Are you ready to cut to the chase and learn all you need to know about sewing scissors? Well, do not worry, I have got you covered. Delving into the sewing tool kit, I am going to take you through three different types of sewing scissors that you NEED to get your sew-jo on!

Paper scissors

Starting off strong with Paper scissors, although they might not be the most exciting thing in your sewing tool kit, they are vital when it comes to cutting out your sewing patterns. You probably already have an extra pair of paper scissors in your craft box or kitchen drawer. They do not need to be anything special, but the longer the blades the better, as this will cut down the time you spend assembling your printed PDF sewing patterns.

Fabric scissors

The “Regina George” of your sewing tool kit is …. Fabric scissors. The most popular scissors in your sewing tool kit, every other pair of scissors wants to be her. Your fabric scissors will be the ones you use the most, so get a good quality pair. I have been using these 12” LDH Midnight Edition Fabric Shears and I am never going back. Your fabric scissors should only ever be used for fabric, so tie some ribbon or fabric around the handle as a reminder, or a warning, whatever suits your flavour.

Snips

The unsung hero of your sewing kit has to be the snips. Snips are a smaller pair of scissors that are designed to get right in there, snipping around a seam and allowing you to cut away those loose hanging threads. Again, I use the LDH midnight edition for when I sew as they just get the job done! My only regret when buying these snips is that I did not get more as these make a fantastic gift for my sewing friends.

Well, there you have it, three pairs of sewing scissors you NEED to have in your sewing tool kit. If you are just getting started or are a more advanced sewist, scissors will be a part of your sewing tool kit for the duration of your sewing journey, so invest in some good pairs that you feel comfortable using.

Final thoughts: I love my fabric scissors, they are so Fetch !
